It just took being catfished by a Katy Perry imitator to get the genuine Katy Perry’s consideration. Also, the “Rise” artist’s reaction to a late scene of MTV’s “Catfish” including a man who trusted he was dating her for more than six years is justified regardless of our own. (Or if nothing else a melodious expansion to Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic.” Don’t you think?)
During the latest appearance on SiriusXM radio’s “Morning Mash Up,” Perry tended to the catfish-ee, Spencer Morrill, who was persuaded he had been trading personal messages with the pop star following 2012.
“My heart goes out to him, actually,” Perry said on the appear. “Anybody who’s been fooled like that … people have dreams and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is always so accessible. We live on the coasts, and we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and I feel sorry for him. So I didn’t like to indulge in that because of my heart, like, would die.”
By the episode’s end, Morrill encountered his con artist, a young lady (and major Katy Perry fan) living in Gloucester, England.
If you’re out there, Spencer, take solace in knowing that the object of your affection at least knows who you are and takes no pleasure in your pain. Now, like a plastic bag, drift through the wind and start again.
