Winona Ryder, 44, has finally broken her silence on all the drama between her ex, Johnny Depp, 52, and his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Amber Heard, 30. Even though Winona and Johnny’s relationship ended with a broken engagement, she’s making sure everyone knows that he was never physical with her, as Amber claims he was in their marriage.
“I can only speak from my own experience, which was wildly different from what is being said,” the actress said in a new interview with Time. “He was never, never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves. I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened. I’m not calling anyone a liar. I’m just saying, it’s difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it.”
Johnny and Winona were together for four years in the early 90s, and she added that she never saw him act “violent” at all when they were dating and engaged.
Amber has a very different story to tell, though: She filed for a restraining order against Johnny, claiming he was violent with her on more than one occasion. She even submitted photos showing bruising on her facefrom these alleged incidents. The actor has vehemently denied Amber’s claims, and Winona is the second of his exes to come to his defense.
“I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous,” Vanessa Paradis, who shares two kids with Johnny, wrote in a letter. “In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me, and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.” It’s major case of he-said/she-said in this situation, and Amber and Johnny are expected in court this summer to see if her now-temporary restraining order will be made permanent.
