The Boy Scouts of America reported Wednesday that girls would soon be allowed to become Cub Scouts and win the Eagle Scout rank, the association’s most astonishing honor.
“We are confident that it is basic to advance how our projects address the issues of families inspired by positive and lasting encounters for their youth,” said Michael Surbaugh, CEO of the Boy Scouts.
The board of governors voted unanimously to make a historic change in an association that has been basically for boys since its establishment more than 100 years earlier.
From one year on, the girls will be able to join Cub Scout units, known as dens. Neighborhood exploration associations may have dens for ladies and caves for young men. “Beginning Scout shrines will be single sex – all boys or all girls,” the association said.
A different program for older girls will be available in 2019, said the Boy Scouts, empowering them to acquire the Eagle Scout rank.
The Boy Scouts said the movements reflect the changing idea of American life, adding to the interest of a scouting program that can serve the whole family.
Girls are now part of four scouting program – Venturing and Sea Scouting, for outdoor exercises; Exploring, a career-oriented mentoring project; and STEM, concentrating on science and mathematics. Be that as it may, those projects have not offered an Eagle Scout rank for the girls.
Before this year, the National Organization for Women encouraged the Boy Scouts to award young ladies to the entire program, supporting the efforts of a New York teenager to achieve the Eagle Scout rank, as her older brother did.
“I just need to do what the Boy Scouts do – get the IDs of legitimacy and get the Eagle Award,” he revealed on NBC News. “Girl Scouts are an incredible partnership, but it’s not simply the program that I need to be a piece of … I think young girls should have the opportunity to be an individual from any association they want regardless of gender.”
Earlier, Girl Scouts have been high at giving out young ladies in the Boy Scouts, referring to asking about who indicated numerous ladies learn best in a woman’s condition.
